Short Certificate Programs that Pay Well
Let’s face it. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to spend the next 4 years or more at a traditional college to pursue a career of their choice.
Many students are in a position that requires them to choose a career option and get a job in as less as a year. And this is where these short certificate programs that pay well come in, as they can get you earning in just a few months, while also making you a part of a growing profession.
You would probably be surprised to see this career option on our list. Well, it’s true that many web developers have an associate’s degree in web development, but it isn’t necessary.
You can also become a web developer by completing a short certificate, which usually only lasts for 6 months to a year. Further, there are a plethora of online web design courses out there to choose from; just make sure you read through the reviews to be sure of the job prospects and the quality of the course material.
This is one of the highest-paying, fastest-growing short certificate programs that pay well, with the median salary being about $65,000 per year. And as this profession is growing at a steady pace, the increase in salary would turn out to be pretty impressive as well.
However, one of the best things about becoming a web developer is that you don’t always need to rely on our job. There are web developers that work as freelancers and make just as much, if not more, than what they would working a job.
You would obviously always have the option of complementing your job income with freelancing income, which can turn into a solid monthly figure.
Now, if you don’t already know, a web developer is simply someone that makes websites for clients. They are the people behind websites looking beautiful, having a professional feel and being functional enough for the users or visitors.
If you have a bit of a creative side and don’t see yourself getting frustrated working with Photoshop for hours at end and writing a lot of code, then you can definitely consider becoming a web developer.
As crime and courts will always exist in this age, court reporters would never go out of demand. And one of the highlighting features of this career option is that it isn’t as demanding as many of the other career options out there, especially the ones with a comparable pay.
As a court reporter, you will primarily be doing word-to-word transcriptions of legal proceedings and other legal events. This will help a lawyer or other legal professional go through them later to plan the future course of action when working on legal matters.
Similarly, court reporters are also hired for writing captions for television covering important legal proceedings or other legal or business events.
The median salary for court reporters is well over $55,000 per year, which is pretty impressive by a short certificate job’s standards. The number of jobs available every year turn out to be above 20,000, which is a fairly decent number for a profession that’s not very common or popular.
Some of the advantages of becoming a court report include:
- You would really enjoy the job if you have an interest in legal stuff
- The growth prospects for this career are really good, with the top 10% of the employees making a staggering $90,000 or more per year
- You would also have a lot of flexibility with respect to the location, as you can find enough employers looking to hire court reporters throughout the United States
Real Estate Broker
The real estate industry needs no introduction. It’s one of the most lucrative industries in the world, with the United States being no exception.
A real estate broker is the person that connects property buyers and sellers or helps clients rent their properties. Despite being one of the oldest professions, it still boasts a healthy growth rate, with the number of real estate brokers increasing about 11% every year.
The salary range for real estate brokers is very wide, with the ones just entering the industry making about $45,000 annually, while some of the more successful, experiences ones making as high as over $175,000 a year.
However, if you think becoming a successful real estate broker is easy, think again. While the certification period for becoming a real estate broker is short and the licensing requirements are not difficult to meet, being able to close enough deals is something not all real estate brokers manage to do.
A real estate broker also needs to be knowledgeable about real estate documents, arrange appointments for the buyers and sellers, market the listings they manage, maintain paperwork and take care of other important tasks as well.
Real estate brokers often also work independently, but in that case, they need to put in a lot of time, effort and even money. That’s because marketing listings are not cheap, but once you learn the market the ROI can be great on each deal you close.
Commercial Truck Driver
This is one of the “less demanding” career options when compared to the ones we discussed above. This is because the job of a commercial truck driver involves driving for long times, without having to do a lot of physical work.
However, don’t mistake that for lackluster career prospects. The demand for commercial truck drivers has been steadily growing, thanks to the fact that almost all purchased well by consumers have to be transported to the stores via trucks.
While the average salary isn’t the highest at $41,340 with an average increase of about 6%, it’s not half bad given that you can become a commercial truck driver in as less as 3 weeks, and get to travel to different places while being paid.
The challenging part of the job would be the long-haul journeys, that involve staying overnight for at least one night.
